Kulttuuritalo, Helsinki, March 1977: Sukellusvene shares The Pop Music Finnish Championship with another band from town of Lappeenranta, Jimi Sumén Dreams. The third place goes to Imatra with Wiemäri Band - 'The Drain'. The yearly competition has been staged for 7th time. Ten best bands from the trials have performed in this final. An ordience of about 1000 has followed the five-hour happening in the Culture House and the whole Finland will see the best parts in national TV broadcast. For the first time, the Finnish Pop Music Association will get it's money back - the competition has now been recognized as remarkable happening.

Wilmasound, Lappeenranta Living Music Association, had made the great: local bands have gained a double victory. Lots of reviews are published throughout the Finnish press. Here are some translations:

''This band [Sukellusvene] sure gets more enthused applause. Sister and brother soloing with wind instruments, half-mad, jumping guitarist and the whole band as well, experiencing real joy of rhythm.''
- Ilta-Sanomat (leading Finnish evening newspaper)

''The exact work of rhythm section (Kotineva-Muhli) was especially noticed, as well as Talasmo brother's and sister's precision on wind instruments grows time after time. Solos by Jukka Mäkinen succeeded today and the soul was brought in by Tuomanen. These provisions were enough for shared championship.''
- Etelä-Karjala (leading East Finland newspaper)

''The S-vene performance worth of championship transmitted joyful feelings, was relatively stylish, an elaborate act made with determined and willfull minds. The band played the same repertoire as in the trial except the 'Savitaipaleen polkka' which was now placed as successful final. Arranged to bands jazzy sound, it was one of the keys for the victory.''
- J. Grönberg in Lappeenrantalainen (local newspaper)

''The jury decision was to declare both Sukellusvene and Jimi Sumen Dreams as winners on equal points. Among the Sukellusvene virtues were brother and sister soloing with wind instruments and a swift guitar player.''
- Jokke in Demari (throughout-Finland newspaper)

''Sukellusvene was a pure jazzband. the first piece was composed by McCoy Tyner. 'Hiilijuna' ('The Coal Train') dedicated to Coltrane and 'Ei vara venettä kaada' ('Reserve won't Overturn the Boat') were own production. The final piece was national 'Savitaipaleen polkka'. How does this kind of music born? How can one get guidement to the road of jazz in Lappeenranta?''
- Lauri Karvonen in Helsingin Sanomat
(newspaper with greatest circulation in Scandinavia)

''Sukellusvene shared the victory with Sumen, however it seems to had less attention. The band has been much longer among the central figures of Lappeenranta youth music life. It participated the Pop SM competition once before and would have been an object for a small article in Soundi Magazine ages ago, unless the script had not disappeared because of some incomprehensible reason. But as we can see, the hard work of bands this good will be credited as time goes on...''
- Mikko Montonen in Soundi (music magazine)

''Among the acts of the winning triangle, especially recalled is the co-work of Talasmo sister and brother Maikki and Lassi playing flute and saxophone. The lively 'Savitaipaleen polkka' got applause as deserved.''
- Titta Hölsä in Help (music magazine for young folks)

''The band managed their difficult material easily like in a game. Their cooperation was perfect, handling of instruments most convincing during the whole evening and joyness of playing most genuine. McCoy Tyner's 'Song of the New World' swinged like a beast. Excellent was also Sukellusvene's own production, where folk music and pop-jazz were finely combined.''
- Uusi Suomi (leading Southwest Finland newspaper)

''The national amateur pop-music is moving into favourable direction, estimated looking at TV-program 'Iltatähti' with selected clips from championship competition. The Sukellusvene from shared 1st position and the 3rd, Wiemäri, performed skilful instrumental music, although the professional hardness was still missing.''
- Åke L. Granholm in Katso (magazine for TV-viewers)
